Today I want to share the results of my love of charms! I think these 5 inch squares - called charms or nickels, are magical. I have only been quilting seriously since last fall.
I had done a couple of simple projects before that. And through reading all of the blogs and looking at the lines of fabric out there, I discovered charms and charm packs! I love how versatile they are. And now I am discovering charm swaps! I thought I would share the projects I have made using charm squares.

By December of 2011, I had started my blog, and discovered the Schnibbles patterns by Carrie Nelson. These adorable patterns use 2 charm packs. Sherri at A Quilting Life and Sinta at Pink Pincushion sponsor a monthly Schnibbles, with a parade of those created at the end of each month. Carrie herself donates a wonderful prize that is given randomly from the entries each month. I won the very first month - a fat eighth bundle of Reunion.

I will be receiving a pack of 112 rainbow charms within the next 2 weeks, and my mind is already racing - trying to decide what type of rainbow quilt I can make.
I would love to hear about the quilts you have made using charms - whether an entire line like I used, or random charms you put together. Are you a Schnibbler?

Just great projects and yes, I love charms too. They are a quick, go to item as well as gives you a chance to view a whole fabric line at a reasonable price. I usually pull random charms, but as a Schnibbler I tend to stick to a whole pack (or 2). And, they are a great little gift to pass on to a fellow quilter (or new quilter).
ReplyDeleteWonderful quilts, are you sure you are a new quilter-----your just kidding, right? Charm packs are the best, I just love that you get a little bit of every fabric in the line. I could never buy such an assortment from one line. I wonder if the quilt shops like them though as we are buying less yardage.
ReplyDeleteThe quilts all look amazing! Charms are so useful. No cutting or trimming to perfect size, just straight out of packet and away you go. I've made some baby quilts using charms and have been keeping a random collection from each fabric I buy =D

Lovely quilts Karen! You know I love charms, in fact, I think they are the best thing since sliced bread! :-) I have a whole bunch of charm packs, I love the convenience of these 5" squares. And yes - I'm a schnibbler... Schnibbles are the only quilt-along I've joined and actually stuck to. They are the perfect size for a weekend quilter like me.

ReplyDeleteI've loved the Schnibble patterns from afar ... so far. I'm really, really drawn to that February one, though -- it's GORGEOUS!! Hmmm. And ps -- if it's quilted, it's a quilt, regardless of size!!! :)
ReplyDeleteNo, I am not a Schibbler but I love Charm Packs. A piece of a whole line goes a long way just got done with my "sophie's twister". I love all your quilts but "Bibelot" is my personal favorite.
